FONSI Received in December 2005

A draft of the Environmental Assessment (EA) document identifying the preferred alternative was prepared for this project in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and the regulations of the Council on Environmental Quality. In addition, a Public Review Draft Air Quality Conformity Document was prepared in accordance with 18AAC 050.720. After the public comment period closed, both documents were finalized and submitted to the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) for review and approval.

The DOT&PF is pleased to announce that the FHWA has issued a Finding Of No Significant Impact (FONSI) allowing the project to proceed to the design phase.

The DOT&PF will be completing the design with staff engineers. As with all the Department’s projects, there will be additional public process during the design to seek input from the public about certain design elements. These public involvement activities may include public meetings, newsletters and web site updates.
